Eat Your Vitamins - How to Get Your Vitamins from Food
May 12, 2017
We've probably been told or have read many times that we need to get more vitamins. What most people mean when they say this is, we need to take some sort of multivitamin pill, or supplement. These are good ways of getting your vitamins, but its not the most natural way. We can get most, if not all of our vitamins from the food we eat! Not only is this healthier, but easier and cheaper!

Gift Guide for the Health Conscience
December 16, 2016
Its Christmas time! Its the time for giving, being with friend and family, and enjoying all the season has to offer! We all love to give gifts to our friends and family members and see their face light up when they open the gift, and of course we like receive gifts too!
Knowing what to get someone as a gift can be pretty tricky, especially if they have some interests or hobbies you don't know alot about! In that case, it can be helpful to do some research or talk to someone who does know something and get some gift ideas from them! I love running, fitness and nutrition. Taking care of my body and helping others do the same is one of my hobbies. You might need to get a gift for someone who has the same or similar interests and if so, you've come to the right place!

Gift Guide for Your Health Conscience Friends
Fitness Accessories
For someone who is really in to fitness, staying active and working, there is nothing better to receive than some cool new gear to use! Whether its a pretty water bottle, a cute headband, gym bag, ear buds, or even some new kettle bells, who ever you give them to, will love them! You can even customize it to whatever activity he/she is interested in!
For runners, ear buds, arm belt for their phone, running ID or even a new running watch are great ideas!
For those into weight lifting, some new weight gloves, fun workout shirts or a bluetooth speaker to blast their tunes might just be perfect!
And for those who are just getting in to fitness, some kettle bells, light weights, yoga mat, or resistance bands are great! Whatever your fitness-buff friend or family member is in to, getting them a gift that fits their activity is always a good idea!
Reading Material
If you are a health conscience person, or you know some one who is, you probably know that we are always reading up on the lastest health craze, workout trend or lifestyle. Even if we don't agree with them 100%, we still love to learn about them! Getting someone a magazine subscription to a health or fitness magazine is a great gift that they get to keep getting all year long! I am subscribed to VegNews and I love it!
Also, books make wonderful gifts during the winter because there is nothing better than curling up next to the fire with a good book! There are hundreds of health, wellness and fitness books out there, so you are sure to find the perfect one to gift!
Classes
Like I said, health conscience people love to learn how to be healthier, and while reading about it is great, taking a class can be alot of fun too! Taking a fitness class in somthing they've never tried, or something they already love is a great way to give your friend/family member a day to remember!
Cooking classes are also another fun gift to give to someone who is careful about what they eat. Learning to cook healthier, better or in a differnt way can really help to inspire them to continue living their healthy lives!
There are tons of differnt kinds of classes out there to choose from, so you will have no problem finding the perfect one! Even offering to taking the class with your friend or family member can make the experience even more special!
FOOD!
You might be laughing now, but get in between a runner/cyclist/yogi... and their food and you won't be! :) We all love food, especially fitness and health conscience people, so giving it as a gift is never a bad idea!
If a person has a specific diet or allergy, then getting them food that is suited to them is very thoughtful. Maybe they are gluten free but love a certain type of dessert, so you could make or buy them that dessert in a way that they could enjoy it. Or, like me, they are vegan, so you could gift them some delicious vegan food goodies!
Food subscription boxes are another fun way to give food this season! They are offered in various catagories, such as vegan, gluten free or whole-foods, and usually can be customized. Having a box of food to look forward to every month is pretty exciting and I don't know one person who wouldn't love it!
Pamper Time
If food, books or new fitness gear don't seem to fit your friend or family member, maybe they just need a little pamper time. Time just for themselves, to relax and chill. Giving someone a day of relaxations is always welcome, whether they are into health and fitness or not.

A day at the spa, a nice massage or a trip to the nail salon might be just what a person needs. For those who are busy staying active, pampering themselves like this is probably something they do once every blue moon. Giving them a massage or spa session is a great way to make sure they get the pampering they deserve!
If going to the spa doesn't sound right, having a relaxing day in might be better! Putting together a 'at home' pamper session might even be more fun! Fill a box or basket with lotions, bath bombs, teas, a cozy rob or pair of PJs or whatever would make your friend or family member feel pampered!
Gift giving can be hard, but if you take time to learn about what a person likes, then you can give them a gift that they will not only love, but remember! Gving them a gift that is personal or specifc to their lifestyle is thoughtful and always well received!
I hope this gift guide has been helpful to you and that you feel more confident in your gift giving this year! Please share this post and my blog with your friends and family members to spread more love for a healthy lifestyle this holiday season!

Eating the Rainbow
July 15, 2016
Eating the rainbow is one of the best ways to make sure you are getting all the nutrients and minerals that you need for a healthy body. I am not talking about colorful candies, sugary drinks or artificial foods that might be brightly colored. I am talking about the vast variety of fruits and vegetables that come in every color in the rainbow! Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, pink....and every shade in between!
So we know we should eat a wide variety of fruits and vegetables, but why? Why can't we just stick to the ones we know or are used to? Different colored food contain different nutrients. Each color has a different health benefit and to gain all the health benefits, we must eat all the colors!
Red
The color red is bright, bold and beautiful! Red fruits and vegetables contain lycopene, anthocyanin, ellagic acid, vitamin C and quercetin. These nutrients help to reduce the risk of stoke and help to reduce inflammation. They also promote heart health and help reduce the risk of prostate cancer. To gain these benefits, eat more tomatoes, red apples, strawberries, watermelon, red bell peppers and any other red fruit or vegetable you can find!
Orange and Yellow
Orange and yellow foods contain many of the same benefits because they are so close in color. These foods contain beta carotene, alpha carotene, vitamin C and A. Eating more orange and yellow fruits and vegetables helps boost antioxidant intake and promote anti-inflammation. They also promote healthy eyes and skin and help to reduce soreness after working out! To gain these benefits, eat more yellow squash, yellow and orange bell pepper, lemons, oranges, clementine, carrots and any other orange and yellow fruits and vegetables you can find!
Green
When most people think 'healthy foods' they probably think of green vegetables, and for good reason! Green fruits and vegetables are very good for us! They contain sulforaphane, magnesium, calcium, latein, potassium, vitamin K and folate. All of these things help to regulate detox of the liver, slow macular degeneration, improve eye health and reduce the risk of certain cancers like breast cancer and colon cancer. To gain these benefits, eat more lettuce, spinach, kale, herbs, zucchini, broccoli, green bell pepper and green apples.
Blue and Purple
Blue and purple fruits and vegetables are always fun, because they add a pop of color to your dish! These foods contain vitamin C, potassium and folate. They help increase antioxidant consumption and promote anti-inflammation in the heart and blood vessels. Eating blue and purple foods also helps to support the immune system and improve skin health and prevent wrinkles! To gain these health benefits, eat more eggplant, blueberries, blackberries, plums, red cabbage and red onion!
White
Yes, we are going to go over white or colorless foods too! These foods might not be as colorful, but they still pack a punch full of health benefits! They contain vitamin C, allium, sulforaphane, and flavonoids. These things help reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease and several types of cancers. They also support health bones, a healthy immune system and help to lower cholesterol levels! To gain these health benefits, eat more garlic, white onions, mushrooms, potatoes, cauliflower, and white carrots!
Eating the rainbow allows us to gain all the health benefits of each color! Maybe you haven't tried a lot of different types of fruits and vegetables, but expanding your palate will not only expand your culinary horizons, but its good for your health too! Set a goal to try one new fruit or vegetable in a different color each week! You'll find new favorites and discover so many new flavors!
I hope this blog post is helpful to you as you journey to become a healthier version of yourself! If you enjoyed this post, please share it with your friends and family to help them live healthier too!

Heat Safety for the 4th of July!
July 1, 2016
Summer is here and the 4th of July is just a few days away! This means spending lots of time outside, under the sun and in the heat. This can be dangerous and even fatal if you don't know how to protect yourself against the sun and heat. With a few simple tips, you can enjoy the outdoors, summer fun and 4th of July celebrations, and stay healthy and safe!
We all love to be outside, and during the summer we spend more time outside than inside! Being outside exposes us to the sun's rays, the heat, and the bugs. Learning how to protect yourself from those things will not only help you have a more enjoyable time, but it will keep you healthier!
Wear Sunscreen!
Sunscreen is something you should never forget when spending lots of time outside! Sunscreen is so important because it protects you from getting sun burned! Not only are sunburns painful, but they can even cause health problems later in life! Wear at least SPF 15 and reapply every 30-40 minutes. Remember, when your swimming, the lotion doesn't last as long. Also, the sun reflects off the water and can burn your more quickly. Wear some sunscreen, and enjoy yourself without worrying about getting burned!
Drink Water!
When you are outside, in the sun, you will get dehydrated very quickly! Being dehydrated can be a very serious health problem if not taken care of right away. Your best bet is to prevent it from even happening! Drink lots of water ( plain water, other drinks don't count) before, during and after your time outside to protect yourself from becoming dehydrated! Signs of dehydration include headaches, thirst, fatigue, dizziness, rapid breathing and constipation. Drinking lots of water will help you stay safe and healthy in the summer heat!
Find Some Shade!
Staying outside all day long might seem like a lot of fun, but it isn't the healthy thing to do. Long exposer to the sun and heat can cause your body to be come dehydrated, fatigued and can even cause heat stroke! Find time to spend in the shade or inside for your body to cool down and to get a break from the sun. Also, wearing sunglasses and a sun hat can help keep your body cool and protect from the sunrays. While being outside is a blast, spending time in the shade keeps your body healthy!
Bug Repellent
Bugs are annoying and their bites can be painful. They can turn a fun family picnic or pool party into a uncomfortable experience! Applying bug spray, lighting citronella candles in the area, and keeping food and drinks covered up will help with the bugs and help to make your experience much more enjoyable! If you aren't keen on the idea of chemical-filled bug sprays, there are lots of natural options out there!
Pet Safety
While keeping yourself safe in the summer is important, you shouldn't forget about your animal friends! They same rules that apply to humans apply to animals as well! Make sure you provide plenty of water and shade and NEVER leave them in a hot car or direct sunshine. Keeping your pets safe in the summer is just as important as keeping yourself safe!
Wear Proper Clothing
Wearing the right kinds of clothes can make your outdoor activities so much more enjoyable! Lose, light weight and light colored clothes are the best. Dark colors attract the sun's rays while light colors repel them. Lose clothing allows your skin to breath and helps to keep your cool! Make sure you are wearing the right thing when you are outside to keep you cool and comfortable!
Don't Over Do It
In the summer, the heat and sun can be brutal. It is important to know when enough is enough. Exercising, working or just playing in the heat and sun can be dangerous if you don't know how to protect yourself and when to call it quits. Don't spend more than an hour outside without some water, sunscreen, and spending time in the shade.
I hope this blog post is helpful and keeps you and your family safe this summer! Everyone wants to have a fun time outside, celebrating and playing, but its important to keep yourself safe and healthy too! Take time to plan and prepare and keep yourself safe and your outdoor fun will never be ruined or interrupted!

Health Hacks
June 24, 2016
Good health is something almost all of us would love to have, right? We all want a healthy body, mind, and environment to live in!
Being healthy isn't just as easy as wishing for it. You have to work for it! And that is why a lot of people give up or don't even try to have a health lifestyle. It just seems too hard! I was inspired by Cotopaxi to write a blog post with some tips and tricks for a healthy lifestyle!
With a few tips, tricks and hacks, a healthy lifestyle can become second nature and like a habit! It doesn't have to be hard or stressful to live a healthy life! Keep reading to learn how to make a healthy lifestyle attainable to every one!
Whether your coming from an unhealthy lifestyle or you are looking to upgrade your already healthy lifestyle, these hacks can be useful to everyone! Some might not apply to you and others will be exactly what you need! Pick and choose, or use them all, to help yourself create a healthier lifestyle!
#1 Start Today!
No matter what you are starting( a diet, workout plan or lifestyle change), you don't want to waste any time! Starting today, right now, as soon as possible helps you get excited and hyped up right away and helps you stick to whatever you are starting. Saying, "I'll start on Monday" "Tomorrow..." or "Next Week" just puts it off and gives you a way out if you lose your will power. Make a decision, take a deep breath, and start today!
#2 Start Learning!
Whenever you make a change in your life, you need to read up and learn all you can about the choices you are making, why, and how they will effect your life! I love learning about nutrition, a healthy lifestyle and fitness and it helps me have a healthy lifestyle. When you learn about the health benefits of things and the dangers of other things, helps you make the right choices. It keeps you from eating that donut and choosing the fruit bowl instead!
#3 Clean Out Your Life!
A healthy lifestyle is much easier if you don't have triggers in the place you live. Cleaning out your pantry, fridge and house of all the unhealthy things ( like junk food, trigger foods, and packaged/processed foods) will help you stay on track! You won't be able to binge on cookies or chips because they won't be in your house! You'll have to make an effort ( get dressed, leave the house, go to the store......) to eat un-healthfully! A clean home is a clean mind and a clean mind is a clean life!
#4 Cook for Yourself
Making your own food is the best way to make sure that you are eating as healthy as possible. When you cook or bake your own food, you choose what goes into it and how healthy it is! Also, bringing your food with you ( to work, school, trips..) helps you stay on track when you aren't at home. Simple things like cut up veggies or fruit keeps you from eating out of the vending machine. Making extra food for meals at home leaves leftovers for meals when you are out! Also, cooking is lots of fun!!
#5 Be Easy on Yourself
You aren't perfect and you won't always be perfectly on track with your healthy lifestyle. And that's okay! A healthy lifestyle doesn't mean eating healthy all the time. It means understanding balance in your diet. Eat as healthy as possible most of the time and allow yourself those treats every now and then! Don't stress about it, because that isn't health either!
These of course are just a few of the many hacks that will help you to have a healthy lifestyle. But these are great building blocks to start with, and I hope they are useful you! The more you learn, the more you experiment, the better you'll become at living a healthy life!
Please share this post and my blog with your friends and family to help others live a healthy lifestyle too!

Spice Up Your Life!
June 3, 2016
Spices are for seasoning food, right? We use them to change and enhance the flavors of our meals and make them tastier. But, did you know that spices are also health foods? They aren't just tasty, they are also super healthy for you!
Turmeric
Turmeric is a yellow root that you can find at most grocery stores. It can help prevent breast cancer, protects against UVA damage and can make your skin look younger and healthier. It also can help lower cholesterol, alleviate allergies and aid in brain health. This little root is more than meets the eye! Add it to your smoothies, salad dressings and so much more!
Cinnamon
Cinnamon is a pretty popular spice. It helps to control blood sugar, prevents irritable bowel syndrome(IBS), and it can help to ease a stomach ache. Cinnamon can also help to preserve food and neutralize odors. It can aid in lowering LDL cholesterol, prevent tooth decay and help in weight loss. No wonder this spice is so popular! I'm sure you've used cinnamon before, but I like to add it to oatmeal, smoothies, muffins and bread and even curries!
Ginger
Ginger is another root, but it's not as vibrant as turmeric. It can help to relieve motion sickness, nausea and migraines. Ginger can also ease or prevent heart burn, reduce inflammation and help fight cancer. Ginger isn't just good for making cookies anymore! Add it to your smoothies. salad dressings, rice and so much more!
Cumin
Cumin is a smoky spice, commonly used in chili. Like ginger, cumin aids in digestion. It can also help fight diabetes and treat food poisoning. Cumin can aid in increasing a mother's milk supply and treat skin problems such as eczema and acne. The next time you are making chili, tacos, or any other spicy dish, throw some cumin in there!
Cayenne
Cayenne is a pepper that is made into a spice. It also aids in digestion and can boost the metabolism. Cayenne can relieve migraines, help fight off colds and the flu, help in weight loss and prevent allergies. It also it a source of vitamin A and E. I love adding cayenne to Pico de Gallo, Guacamole, Tacos, and so much more. If you are looking to add some serious spice, cayenne is the one for you!
So these are just a few of the many many spices out there! Hopefully now you look at spices as health foods as well as flavoring and seasonings! Adding just a bit of spice into your diet can help you have a healthier body and life!
I hope you enjoyed this post! Please share it with your friends and family to spread the love of healthy living!

5 Life Changing Podcasts
April 8, 2016
A couple of weeks ago, I suddenly found myself with a running injury! I don't know how it happened, or even if it was related to running at all, but it was there and pretty painful. Dealing with an injury was the last thing I wanted to do! I had just started some speed-training to get faster times on short distances, and here I was with an injury! Of course, its not uncommon for runners to get injuries, I just didn't think it would happen to me so early in my running career. I saw a chiropractor and he was able to help some, but I soon realized I was just going to have to give it time to heal on its own. So, since I wouldn't run, and I still wanted to get some exercise, what was I to do? Thankfully, my Dad had set up an elliptical in our garage, so I began to use that for my workouts. It wasn't the same as running, but it kept me active and it was easy on my injured leg.
So, what is my point in telling you all this? I am telling you this because it has lead me to discover something wonderful! Something I had heard about, but never saw myself getting into. Let me explain.... When I run, I usually find a something to watch like a cooking show, documentary or something like that. But, on the elliptical, to know where I was calorie and heart-rate wise, I needed to look at my phone screen, so I couldn't watch anything. I had to listen to something. Music worked sometimes, but I wanted something that would get my mind off the workout. And that lead me to......PODCASTS!
Podcast are basically a recording of someone talking about something. Topics range from health and wellness to comedy and cooking shows. What ever interests you, you will find at least one podcast on it! They are easy to listen to, and for me, they were perfect for workouts!
Even though I have only been listening to podcasts for a few weeks, I have already found some favorites! I want to share those with you today!
#1 The Raw Food Podcast by The Rawtarian
Don't let the name fool you or turn you away! Yes, this is a podcast about veganism and raw foodism, but thats not all. Not only are there episodes on veganism and raw foods, there are also episodes on basic health, nutrition information, and also some recipes too! Vegan or not, Raw Foodist or not, I encourge you to check this one out! The Rawtarian .
#2 The Running Lifestyle Show
So this one might not have been the best thing to get my mind off the fact that I couldn't run, but I love it anyways! The episodes are full of helpful information, motivation for all runners, both beginner and long-time runners! There are lots of interveiws with various differnt types of people from doctors, race directors, other runners, and a few others! If you are a runner or you are thinking about running, this is a must listen to podcast! And even if you don't run, its still a great podcast to listen to for health and wellness information and inspiration! The Running Lifestyle
#3 Food for Thought
This is another vegan podcast, but that doesn't mean nonvegans won't benefit from listening to it. It is full of tips and tricks on how to live a healthier and happier life! There are episodes with interveiws, tips and tricks, traveling, and so much more! The host is also very easy to listen to, and is in no way judgemental! Running 101
November 27, 2015
I used to hate running! It was always a last-resort workout for me, and because of that, I didn't run very often. When we moved over the summer, we didn't have room in our new house to have both the treadmill and the elliptical(which was my go-to), and the treadmill won out. With the elliptical out of the question, I began using the treadmill a lot more. Now, I use it almost everyday, and I am totally in love with running!
Why Should You Start Running?
Running has so many benefits for your health, body, and mood! The number of benefits is almost countless, so here are just a few of them!
It is super great for your mental health because your body releases a chemical that makes you feeling happy! Running isn't the only thing that can lift your mood though! Just about any exercise or workout will help to release those feel-happy chemicals!
Running helps to strengthen your lungs and bronchi, which can help lessens the effects of asthma. Just make sure to take deep breaths while running, not short, choppy ones!
Your arteries expand and contract while you are running, which helps your arteries stay fit and maintain good blood pressure. Again, most cardio exercises will do this for you!
Runners often don't suffer from illnesses as much (if any) as those who don't run! Running not only keep you healthy on the outside, but on the inside too!
Another great thing about running is, its great for weight-loss! You can burn up to 825 calories an hour while running! It also is a great way to target fat and extra weight around your middle.
Running also builds and strengthens your lower body, tendons, and ligaments. This helps your body become stronger over all, and increases your flexibility.
When you run, you are putting stress on your bones (Don't worry, that's not bad!) which causes your body to send essential minerals to your bones to strengthen them. Just make sure you aren't stressing your bones out too much too soon! Start off with short, easy runs and then work your way up!
Running also helps to decrease the effects of diabetes. Its helps to diabetic resistance to insulin, and maintain healthy blood sugar levels!
Overall, I believe running is a great way to stay fit, active, and healthy inside and out! Also, it makes you feel so good, whether you doo 1 mile or 10!
How Do You Start Running?
Simple, just do it! The only way to grow to like something, learn how to do something, and even become good at something is so start right away!
You don't have to own a treadmill or have a gym membership to become a runner. All you need is some good running shoes and a side walk, street, or road. Some great music doesn't hurt either! Just put on your shoes and getting going! Start out with a swift walk, then a jog, and slowly work your way up to a speed you are comfortable with. Then, push yourself! You don't have to run full speed all the way, just burst of high speed is great! Then, nearing the end of your run, start slowing down and bring your heart rate down slowly.
Also, if running on a road, side walk, or street, make sure you are on the look out for cars, people, and bikes! We don't want anyone getting hurt!
You don't have to run everyday, or for every workout. Running can be used as your go-to cardio workout, or a warm up for a weight lifting session. You can also swap running out for another type of cardio, to keep your body guessing!
How to be a Healthy Runner
Wait a minute! I just listed a ton of health benefits of running, so how could you be an unhealthy runner? Well, it is possible. Not taking care of your body, over stressing- over working, and under eating are just a tip of the ice burg of unhealthy running.
To be a healthy runner, you need to listen to your body. This is true for any type of exercise. Go by how you feel, not what your goals are. If your goal is to run a marathon, taking those rest days in between training will be the best thing for you. If you are super sore, you don't have a ton of energy, or you just plain don't feel good, then don't run. Your body has many ways to tell you it isn't in tip-top shape, and the only way to see those signs is to pay attention to your body.
Over stressing your body is another way to be an unhealthy runner. Running too long or too fast before you are capable of it can cause injury and set you back in your running progress. You can't start off running a marathon everyday, just because other runners do. In the beginning, go for shorter distances and easy paces, even if you think its too easy for you. Every time you run, try to beat your time or speed by just a little bit, and/or go just a bit longer. Working your way up to longer runs and faster speeds is the best way to stay a healthy runner!
Under eating can be a down fall for anyone trying to become fitter. And, it is easier than you might think to do. Running, as any exercise, increases you metabolism and burns a lot of calories. This causes your body to need more food to stay fuel and energized. Even if you are trying to lose weight, you have to eat more as a runner. Just make sure it is healthy food, and you should still reach your goals!
How Do I Run?
Like I said earlier, I run quite a bit now. When I first starting running, I would run around 3 to 4 miles each time. I wouldn't run it straight, stopping about mid-run and taking a breather, and worked my way up from there. I slowly increases my distance and speed until I was running 8 to 9 miles a day. Then, just to test myself, I tried running 9 miles straight. I did it, and it wasn't too hard either! I knew that this meant I had built up my stamina and strengthened my body to a point where it could take long distances and fewer(if none at all) breathers. From that point on, I increases my distances, and continued to run for the entire run. Today, for example, I ran 11 miles @ 6.5 miles and hour and a 4-5% incline. I am proud of how far I've come as a runner, and I hope to continue building up my stamina and strength so I can one day(soon!) run a half marathon and even a full marathon!
I hope this post will encourage you to get out the door and go for a run. You will be a different person after you start adding a run or 3 to your week! Whether you chose to go short, or build your way to longer runs, I am sure you will soon come to love running just as much as I do!
Make sure you keep in mind your own health and capabilities. Everyone is different, so you should adjust your exercise to what you are capable of at a healthy level.
Please share this post with your friends and family. Spread the love of a healthy lifestyle and help others become healthier!

Ocotber is Breast Cancer Awareness Month!
October 23, 2015
October is a wonderful month for so many great reasons! The weather starts to cool down, the days get shorter, the colors change, fall food becomes popular, Halloween , and October is also Breast Cancer Awareness Month!
To be honest, I don't have a lot of knowledge about breast cancer, other than the fact that it is a terrible disease and it claims so many lives! Since it is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, I wanted to look into Breast Cancer and really get a better understanding on what it is!
In my researching and reading up on breast cancer, I came across this post from Bankers Healthcare Group it really helped me understand the disease better! They shared some awesome information about Breast Cancer ,like, how many lives it claims, the different things that can put you at a higher risk of getting breast cancer, and so much more! I wanted to share some of the post with you here!
Isn't this so informative? Thanks so much to the Bankers Healthcare Group for putting up this post and helping me understand Breast Cancer better!
What Can You Do To Protect Yourself From Breast Cancer?
Breast Cancer is no joke, and we want to avoid it at all cost! No one wants to go through having breast cancer, so it is very important to educate yourself on prevention! I am no expert on breast cancer or the prevention of it, but I found some great and helpful tips and I'll share them with you!
Diet
Having a healthy diet is super important in cancer prevention! Broccoli, Cabbage, Cauliflower, Brussels Sprouts, Kale, Tomatoes, and Carrots are all veggies that can aid in breast cancer prevention. Staying away from Alcohol is also a must-do for many reasons, including cancer prevention. Green tea is a great source of antioxidant and help to aid in breast cancer prevention. Foods high in omega-3s like walnuts and flaxseed also are known to help prevent breast cancer.
Breast Feed Your Babies!
Studies have shown that women who have breast fed their babies have a 4% lower risk of getting breast cancer.
Stay Active
Not only does exercise keep you healthy and fit, but it also helps to keep you at a healthy weight. Being overweight has been shown to increase the risk of breast cancer by more than 3%.
Education!
The more you know about breast cancer, the better equipped you are to prevent it! Knowing what risk factors are in your life, and your families' cancer history is a great place to start!
I do not claim to know a lot about breast cancer( as I said before) and you should totally talk to a professional if you have serious concerns!
If you want to check out the original post from Bankers Healthcare Group, you can go here.
Please share this post with your friends and family to spread the love of healthy living and the knowledge of Breast Cancer Prevention!

Fall in Love with Fitness
October 16, 2015
I love the season of fall so much! All the colors, the cooler weather, the seasonal food, cozy days... I could go on and on! To me, the first sign of fall is when the leaves start to change into the brilliant reds, yellows, and oranges! I think Fall is such a beautiful time of year, and it gets me in the mood of all sorts of things!
One of the things Fall gets me in the mood for is working-out outside! Here, the cooler weather makes for such nice workouts, that I look forward to them more and more! Lately, my go-to workout has been running, which I used to dis-like with a passion! Now I love to run, and am falling deeper in love with every time I run! We have a treadmill in our garage, so when the weather is cool, I open up the garage doors and workout in the cooler air!
With every new season comes change, and a chance to start something new! When ever the season, month, or year changes, I always get motivated to start new, start fresh, or make new goals to strive after! Fall is a great time to start new health and fitness goals because it's a great time to get outside, get active, and become healthier!
But, how do you get started? How do you start down the road to a healthier life? My advice is, start small and work your way up. 'Rome wasn't built in a day' after all! Making small changes, instead of big ones, helps you get used to them and become more comfortable with them.( For example) Going from a fast-food diet to a healthier, homemade meals diet over night can be a big change, but starting slow with...maybe one meal a week homemade, and working your way up from there is so much easier and will help you stick to it!
Food First!
I personally think that, if you are starting out fresh in a healthy lifestyle, that diet is the first thing you should change. It can be the hardest part for some, and the easiest part for others, but nevertheless, I do think its the most important part of a healthy life! How can you expect your body to be able to start being more active if it doesn't have good, healthy fuel(food) to keep it going?! Here are a few things you can do to start eating healthier!
1. More Water! Try and drink lots of water everyday! Not only does this keep you hydrated, it also helps you feel full longer, helping you not over eat!
2. Less Meat, More Veggies! If you read my Portion Control , blog post, you'll know that only 1/4 of your plate should be meat, another 1/4 should be grains, and the rest should be piled high with veggies! Practice this the next time you eat a meal, and you'll be amazed that you can still be stratified, even with less meat!
3. Eat at Home! I know this isn't so easy for everyone, but eating at home is a great way to insure that the food you are eating is healthy! Making your own meals lets you know just what goes into your meals!( By the Way, I am not talking about premade store bought meals!).
There are lots more tips and trick to getting your diet on a healthier track! If you would like more, check out Clean Eating , and Healthy Habits.
Get Moving!
Second to your diet, exercise is also very important to having a healthy body. Most people are far to sedentary, which is why we have so many people with health problems( which is another topic all together!). Getting up and moving, even for a short time every day or so, will keep you fit, healthy, and happy! Here are a few ways to add exercise into your daily life!
1. Walk! Its really that simple, just walk! Walk to work or school( if you can), take the stairs, park a little further from the store than normal, or just take a walk! Walking is such a relaxing exercise, you won't even know you are getting a workout in!
2. Short but Effective! Doing short, yet effective workouts every morning or night( I like to do them before my shower at night!) is a great habit to get into! They can be little things like: 50 Jumping Jacks, 50 Squats, 20 Sit-Ups, or 10 Push-Ups, 30 Lunges, 40 Jog-in-Place( to give you a few examples). Like I said, start small and work your way up!
3. Workout Buddy! Having a workout budding is a great way to keep yourself on track! Find a friend, or make a new one, and set goals with each other. If you work or go to school together, walk together during lunch, or something like that! Pick a day of the week to meet and go on a jog/run. Have fun and you won't dread those workouts!

I hope you enjoyed this post and that it helps you start fresh this fall, with a healthier lifestyle! Remember, Fall isn't just about the treats, pumpkin spice lattes, and sitting on the couch, but it is a great time to get up and get active and healthy!

Favorite Books!
August 21, 2015
I love to read just about any type of book, but especially books about food, health and fitness. I find them motivational, helpful, entertaining and inspirational. I always feel inspired to eat and live healthier after I read one of these books! So, I want to share with you a few of my favorite books and maybe you can be just as inspired and motivated as me!
French Women Don't Get Fat! by Mireille Guiliano
French Women Don't Get Fat is one of my favorite books! Mireille is such a great writer, balancing her life story, the French tips for staying trim, and delicious recipes! I love that she shares her victories as well as failures and tips she learned along the way. Her recipes are easy to follow, delicious and all relatively healthy. She also has a 'plan' of sorts for getting started living as a French woman. I also read the sequel to the book: French Women For All Seasons and I loved that one as well.
Clean
Clean is a book I've blogged about before. It is a cleansing/detox book that explains what detoxing does, the benefits of it and how to do it! I have done a version of the cleanse twice, and I loved how I felt during and after each time! It also has several recipes that are clean and healthy!
In Defense of Food
Michael Pollan's book, In Defense of Food is such a great informational book about food, the American way of eating, and what we can do to change the way we eat. He also has several others books that I want to read, including Omnivore's Dilemma which I am in the middle of reading now!
Running Like a Girl
I just started reading this book, Running Like a Girl , and I have already fallen in love! The book is written from the perspective of someone who started out not liking to run, and follows her as she grows and learns to love it. It is so motivational, funny, and informational. After reading just a few chapters, I wanted to go out for a run! I love how easy it is to relate to the author, and understand the struggles and realize that you aren't alone in your feelings towards running after all!
Body and Soul
Bethany Hamilton's book, Body and Soul is such a great book! She writes about growing up, losing her arm to a shark attack, learning to surf again, getting her life back on a healthier track, and living life in a healthier way. I love her workouts, recipes, stories, tips, and inspiration! She also is firm in her faith and shares ways that God has helped her through her life! I recommend this book for teenage girls( or anyone!) who wants to get their life back on a healthier track!

5 Diets Explained
July 13, 2015
There are so many different diets and food-lifestyles out there right now! It can be hard to keep them straight, or to even know what they mean! People change their diets for many different reasons, like for health issues, beliefs, to challenge themselves, to make a statement, become healthier....and so on. When talking to someone about their diet or lifestyle, its important to understand just what their diet means. No one wants to offend anyone or be stuck with their foot in their mouth!
For me, I love to learn about different diets and ways of life. I don't follow a specific diet or food-lifestyle, but I do incorporate a few parts from a couple of them into my own.
Vegan
Going Vegan and being Vegan has become super popular! There is a growing number of recipes tailored for those following a Vegan lifestyle. But what exactly does Vegan mean? I was confused about it for a little while before I looked it up. Vegan means not abstaining the use of animal products. This means that what Vegans eat, drink and even wear, doesn't contain any animal products or byproducts. Why do people go Vegan? Most people are Vegan because they dislike the idea of animals being killed, but some go Vegan for health reasons, whether they are allergic to meat or another animal-based products. Others go Vegan simply because it is a healthy way of life, if you can live without meat!
Vegetarian
Vegetarian isn't as popular as Vegan, but there are still plenty of info out there on going 'Veggie' and what it means. I used to get Vegan and Vegetarian mixed up, but now I have it straight! Vegetarian, or 'Veggie' means not eating any meat( Chicken, fish, red meats, or the flesh of any animal). So Vegetarians still eat some byproducts of animals, just not the meat or flesh it's self. Some people are Vegetarian because of religious beliefs, others because of Animal Rights, and still others are 'Veggie' because it, like Veganism, is a healthy lifestyle.
Paleo
This is another popular diet right now. I personally like using Paleo recipes because they tend to be the recipes that use unprocessed products and natural products and ingredients. A Paleo diet or the Caveman Diet means eating only things that our ancient ancestors would have eaten, like meats, nuts and berries. This means that a lot of today's foods aren't on a Paleo diet. Most people adopt a Paleo diet because it is a very healthy way of life, but some use it because they have allergies or health issues.
Raw
A growing number of people are 'Going Raw' and I see more and more recipes for eating raw. What does Raw mean? It means eating only raw, uncooked and unprocessed foods. For most people following a Raw diet, this means being very Vegan and/or Vegetarian as well. This diet is mainly used as a healthy diet and way of life. Some people do Raw till 4 or any other time in the day. This means that up to a certain time in the day you eat only Raw foods and then after that time you can eat non-Raw foods.
Fasting
Fasting is a general term and there are many different types of Fasting Diets. They are simply diets where you go for a certain period of time without eating. Some are fast-by-the-hour diets, others are days and some even are weeks. But, these diets can be dangerous if not done properly and carefully. Make sure you do your research and you know your body before trying to fast. Some people fast for religious reasons, others for the healthy benefits, and some use it to detox their bodies.
So there you go! 5 different popular diets explained. Now I hope you know a bit more about the different diets and ways of life out there and you can better understand each one. If this was helpful to you, please share this with a friend or family member to spread the knowledge and love of healthy living!

Chia Seeds
December 28, 2014
Chia seeds have so many health benefits! You can get half the amount of fiber you need in a day in just one ounce of Chia seeds! They also will give you an energy boost, help control your food cravings, lose excess weight, lower cholesterol, stabilize blood sugar levels, improves digestion, reduces inflammation, improves hydration, lower blood pressure, improves sleep, lower risk of heart attack and much more! ( Info from Chia Seeds Health ) .
With all those benefits, adding them to our diets is a must! But, how do you do that? Its not all that pleasant to just have a spoon full of Chia seeds in the morning. Here are a few ways to add Chia seeds into your diet!
Mix them into oatmeal, yogurt and granola or cereal. You can hardly tell they are there!
I add them to my smoothies and shakes! They blend right up and you can't even see them!
Add to soup to thicken the broth.
You can even use them as an egg substitute! 1 tablespoon Chia seeds to 1/4 cup of water for 1 egg.
Sprinkle on a salad. Rodale News suggest toasting the Chia seeds to give them a nutter flavor!
