We all love to be happy, right? Some times, when life gets crazy, stressful or unfamiliar we can lose some of that happiness. How can we get it back? How can we be happy no matter what is going on in our life? One answer is simple, exercise!
Exercise has many benefits, and increased happiness is really just a side effect! A pretty cool side effect though! All of the benefits of exercise add up to put you in a happier mood every time!
1. Increased Dopamine Production
Dopamine is a chemical in your brain that is associated with those happy, 'feel good' feelings. Exercise is one of the best and easiest ways to increase your brain's dopamine production and take you from gloomy to groovy!
2. More Energy!
You've probably already heard/read that exercising gives you more energy, but its worth repeating! Exercise = Energy and Energy = Happies, so that must mean that Exercise = Happiness! So, the next time you're feeling lazy, get some exercise and you'll feel 100% better and happier!
3. Lowers Anxiety and Depression
There are tons of studies that relate depression and anxiety levels with exercise. They show that the more exercise a person gets during the week, the lower their levels of depression and or anxiety are! Exercise has proven time and time again to be an excellent mood-boosting tool!
4. Slows Cognitive Decline
The older a person gets, the less able their brain functions become. This results in a bad memory, slowed learning skills and confusion. Thankfully, exercise has been shown to slow down cognitive decline and even increase memory and learning skills!
5. Catch More Zzzzz's
We all know sleep is important. I have several post written about sleep, how to get more of it, an why we should sleep more. Exercise has been shown to aid in better quality sleep and even help you fall asleep and sleep longer! Feeling restless? Get some exercise during the day for a great night's sleep!
These of course are just a few of the ways that getting more exercise makes you a happier person! I know for myself that I am much happier, calm and productive if I get my morning exercise in! You don't have to get a lot of exercise to reap the benefits! Simply just a few minutes every day or at least 30 minutes a few times a week can give you all the wonderful benefits that exercise has to offer!
