Health and Fitness New Years Resolutions

The New Year is here! Welcome 2017 and all that you have to offer! I can't wait to see what this next year holds for me! The new year is a great time to get back on track and start being healthier. Even if you already have a healthy lifestyle, its still a good time to shake things up and get back on track!

Whether you make new year resolutions or not, this is still a great post for you to read if you aren interested in getting back into or starting a healthy lifestyle! These are just over all basic tips that you can take and make your own to fit your lifestyle and needs!

Make Exercise a Habit

Exercise is a huge part of a healthy lifestyle, so making it a habit is so key! Challenge yourself to exercise every day, whether its 10 minutes or 1 hour! Just get moving and get your heart rate up every day and you will feel the benefits! Anything from taking the dog for a walk to going on a run or lifting weights counts! If it gets your moving, then its exercise! Do it for a week and you will feel amazing! Making it a habit makes it easier to get done, and being consistent with it will help make exercise a habit!

One Healthy Meal

If you are coming from a SAD ( Standard American Diet) diet, then eating healthy might come as a struggle for you. Challenge yourself to eat one healthy meal a day, and then eat whatever you want the rest of the day. Maybe this is a smoothie or bowl of oatmela for breakfast, a salad or quinoa bowl for lunch or a healthy burrito bowl or soup for supper, just pick one meal! When one meal because easy, try adding another one. Soon, you will learn to love your healthy meals and you'll want them over the unhealthy meals you used to eat!
If you are coming from an already healthy lifestyle, but you let things slip over the past few months, this is still a great tip! Ease back into a healthy lifestyle one step at a time and learn to love it all over again!

Drink More Water!

I've said it before but I'll say it again- hydration is key! For most people, drinking enough water is tough, even for people who lead a healthy life. I know that I struggle getting enough water in every day! What I like to do is, keep a glass by your fridge and everytime you pass it, fill the glass with water and drink it. If you are out and about every day, take a big water bottle with you and fill it up everytime it gets empty. Challenge yourself and see how many glasses or bottles of water you can get through each day!
If you have a hard time drinking just plain water, try adding some lemon, lime or orange wedges to your water for a nice citrus flavor! Essential oils are also a great way to change up the flavor of your water, just make sure they are food-grade!

Get Enough Sleep

Above anything else, sleep is most important for living a healthy life, long term. If you don't exercise or eat right, at least get enough sleep! Your body cannot function properly if you are tired or unrested. Maybe you get enough sleep ( at least 7-8 hours is ideal) and thats wonderful! Keep up the good work! But, if you are like most Americans, you probably don't get enough sleep.
Stress, social life, and electronics are just a few of the things that rob people of a good nights sleep! I have a post on Food for Better Sleep that can help you out ! Also, putting away electronics an hour before bed will help you fall asleep and stay asleep longer! Challenge yourself to start heading to bed 30 minutes before you usually do. Even that extra 30 minutes to wind down can help you sleep better and feel so much better the next day!

I hope you have made some healthy new year resolutions and that this post can help you keep them! I hope to make 2017 the best year yet, both with health and fitness and just day-to-day life! Whatever resolutions you have made, I wish you good luck in keeping them!
