Our Jamaican Vacation (Part 1)

If you follow me on social media( you really should!) then you will already know that I just got back from a 12 day vacation to Jamaica! The trip was amazing! We had so much fun, met some new people and relaxed by the beach! In the next few blog posts, I am going to share the highlights from our Jamaican Vacation!

The Day Before.....
We left on Christmas Day, so Christmas eve we celebrated Christmas with a few small gift and a delicious Christmas feast. I made my vegan sweet potato casserole, rolls, green beans, salad and of course apple pie and ice cream to finish the meal off right!
Because our flight left the next day at 7ish am, we went to bed early, our suitcases packed and ready by the door.

Travel Day!
We woke up at 3:30 and headed to the airport. After we went through security, we found some coffee and waited at our gate to board our plane. From Nashville we flew to Miami and from Miami we flew to Jamaica. We ate brunch in the Miami airport at a Cuban restaurant before our next flight.

We got into Montego Bay in Jamaica around 2:30 and had to go through customs. That took forever! Then, we met up with my brother's friend who was going to be in Jamaica with us. Next it was time to tackle the car rental. We rented a 12 passenger van ahead of time, but when we went to pick it up, they only had a 8 passenger van. Instead of trying to hassel with the company, we took the van they had and left the airport at 5:30.
Because it was Christmas Day, most stores and restuarants were closed. We ran into a gas station and got what we could to have for supper.
We used AirBandB to rent a house in Montego Bay. It wasn't the nicest place, as American Standards go, but we weren't in American any more! We ate and then went out to the 'beach' behind the house to get our first look at the beach!

Day 1
We slept in, which was much needed. The neighbors had been celebrating with loud music all night!A soon as we woke up, we wanted to go out and see the water! We hadn't gotten a good look at it the night before because it was dark!

It was rocky, so we couldn't get in the water right there. Thankfully there was a small beach just a short walk from the house, so after breakfast ( minus the coffee unfortuantly) we walked over to it.

We didn't go swimming at this beach, just played in the sand for a while. Then we drove into town to try and find some groceries. Most of the supermarkets were still closed for the Holiday, so instead we found a restuarant to eat at. We ate at Pier 1 and it was delicious and had a great view of the water! We tried their homemade fruit punch, which was delicious! I orded the grilled veggie wrap and it was very yummy!

After we ate, we went back to a conveniece store for some more groceries. Then we drove back to the house and just relaxed by the beach for the rest of the afternoon.
We wanted to make red peas and rice for supper, but the gas in the stove was out. Thankfully we called the land lady and she was able to get things working again! We made the rice with coconut milk and thyme and then added in the red peas (kind of like kidney beans) and at that with toast for supper. Eating from a gas station was getting old at this point, but the beans and rice were delicious!

Day 2

We got up early and ate breakfast before getting ready to head to the beach! We drove to Doctor's Cove Beach and met some friends there. It was a very nice beach, but they charge you to go in. Most beaches in Jamaica were like this.

The water was fairly warm and the beach/sand wasn't too rocky! We swam, snorkled and jumped off the water trampolines! It was a lot of fun!
For lunch, we ate at the beach's restuarant. They had some delicious smashed plantains, which I fell in love with!
After lunch, it started to get cloudy and looked like it was going to rain, so we packed up and left the beach.  We went back to the house, showered and just relaxed.
It was my little brother's 4th birthday, so we got some cake slices from a store and sand happy birthday to him! What a great way to celebrate a birthday!

Day 3

We had to leave our house in Montego Bay on this day, so after breakfast we started packing up our things. We finally had some real jamaican coffee and it was delicious! The land lady came by and gave us some tips on what to do in Kingston once we got there! It was very helpful!
On our way out of town, we ate at Sky Bar and Grill. It was up on a hill and had an amazing view of Montego Bay, the airport and the water!

After we ate, we drove to a church convention where we would spend days 4-6. On the way there, we stopped at a gas station for drinks. I got a pinapple ginger juice and it was delicious!
