How to be an Early Riser

Waking up early can seem hard or impossible for some people, but, getting a few extra hours in your day is never a bad thing! Those extra hours could mean the difference between getting a good grade, turning in a test on time, getting to work on time, or simply, just getting stuff done! At first, it might not seem worth it, but trust me, waking up early can, and should be, a part of your day!

I wake up early 6 days out of the week. Why? Getting up early allows me to get in my run before we have to start school. Just because I am homeschooled, doesn't mean we get to do whatever we want whenever we want! We have to do our school work just like everyone else, we just have the choice of whether we want to wear our pjs all day or not!
So, I get up early and get my run done before I shower and get on with my day! I find it puts me in a good mood and helps me to fell energized all day long!

Make a Plan

Waking up early just for the sake of waking up early is a bad idea. You need something to motivate you, to excite you, so that you don't just hit the snooze button and go back to sleep. Sometimes I make a list of everything I need to do the next day. Its also a good idea to write down some goals you have for the next day, or even the next week. Planning something fun for breakfast, or setting your coffee maker to go off is a great motivator to get up in the morning!  Having these things written and planned  makes them more real, and you are more likely to stick to them than if they were just in your head.

Lay it Out

The night before, lay out the clothes, bags, shoes and anything else that you need for the next day. If you plan to workout first thing in the morning, lay out your workout clothes and shoes, so that you have no excuses! Waking up and seeing the things you have layed out, makes you WANT to get out of bed! If you have a fun day planned, the things you lay out in preparation for it, gets you excited and ready to go in the morning!

Set an Alarm

I know, I know, typical for this kind of post, but its so true! Setting an alarm gets you planning for the next day and hearing the alarm gets you AWAKE in the morning, which is key to getting up earlier. Maybe the sound of a blaring alarm in the morning isn't the best wake-up call, but you can kind an alarm that sounds nice ( your phone probaly has several to choose from) and will be great to wake up to!
As to setting your alarm, I like to do 2 alarms. One for 15 minutes before I want to be up and one for when I want to get up! That way, if you roll over and go back to sleep after the first one, you have the next one to wake you back up!
Another great tip for your alarm is, Move It! Move your alarm clock, phone or whatever you are using as an alarm to the other side of your room. Having it right next to your bed makes it too easy for you to hit the snooze button! Put it in a place where you have to get out of bed to turn it off, but not too far away that you don't here it! :)

Go to Bed

You have to actually be in bed alseep before you can wake up early. Going to bed at a reasonable time if the first step to waking up earlier. I know, it doesn't sound super fun, but if you want a more productive and longer day, you have to go to bed early. Start by going to bed half an hour before you usually do and see how it feels! I bet you will like it!

Relax

So, you've made a plan, you layed out your clothes, you've set your alarm and you're in bed....now you have to go to sleep! For so many people, getting enough sleep is hard. Whether its stress, kids, or going to bed too late, people get robbed of their sleep. Heres by tip- RELAX! It might just be 10 minutes before you go to bed, but take that time to sit down and do something that relaxes you. Read a book, drink some tea, do a craft or write in a journal, whatever relaxes you. Not only will it help you feel better and sleep better, but it will help you get the sleep you need AND wake up early!

I hope these tips have helped you and you can use them to become and earlier riser! If you have found this post helpful, please share it with your friends and family!

Easter Morning Glory Muffins

Easter is just around the corner, which means that it is slowly becoming Spring time! I love the Spring season and all the life and beauty it brings! To help celebrate the Easter Holiday, I wanted to make something that was both delicious and healthy! These Morning Glory Muffins are just that!

These muffins are both delicious and nutritious! They are full of fruit and vegetables to help your day get started off right! The oil and eggs( found in most muffin recipes) is recplaced with apple-sauce to create a lighter, yet moist muffin! In addition to being super yummy, these muffins are both Vegan and Oil-Free, making them the perfect breakfast, snack or dessert!

Ingredients:

2 cups Flour
1 TBS Baking Powder
2 tsp Baking Soda
2 tsp Cinnamon
1 tsp Ground Ginger
1/4 tsp Salt
1/2 cup Brown Sugar ( or Maple Syrup and use less Apple Sauce)
1 1/2 cup Unsweetened Apple Sauce
1 tsp Vanilla
1/2 Unsweetened Coconut Flakes
1/2 Raisins
1 cup Crushed Pineapple
1 cup Grated Carrot
Oats and extra Brown Sugar for a topping(optional)

First, whisk together the dry ingredients- Flour, Baking Powder, Baking Soda, Cinnamon, Ginger, Salt and Coconut.

In a differnt bowl, mix together the wet ingredients- Brown Sugar, Apple Sauce, Vanilla, Pineapple, and Grated Carrot.

Then, add the wet mix into the dry mix along with the raisins.

Mix it to combine but make sure not to over mix. It should be a fairly stiff batter, but not a dough!

Preheat the oven to 400 F and line or grease a muffin tray. I used parchment paper and made my own liners, but store bought ones will work fine too! Also, Coconut Oil or Vegetable oil is great to grease with.
Fill the tins a little over half way full and top with a sprinkle of brown sugar and oats.

Bake for 20 minutes or until a tooth pick comes out clean.

Your house will smell amazing and you'll be craving a muffin by now! Thank goodness you have a whole tray full to eat!
Let the muffins cool for a few minutes before removing them and letting them cool completely on a wire rack.

These muffins are perfect for Easter Morning or any morning out of the year! They are also great to pack in lunches, have as a snack, or even as a dessert with a cup of coffee or tea! The coconut, carrot and pineapple pair together so well and make these muffins super moist and delicious! Also, its added healthy-ness!

I hope you enjoy this recipe! Oil Free and Vegan recipes are hard to come by, so when you find a good one, you'll want to hold on to it! Its also a good idea to share those recipes with your friends and family! Please do so with this one too!

Rise and Shine: Morning Rountine

Good Morning! Rise and Shine! Bright Eyed and Bushy Tailed! Up and At 'Em!
Everyone has a morning routine, even if you don't realize it. We build habits for getting ready for bed, and that becomes are routine.

Building and having a healthy morning routine will set you up for a healthier and better day! Getting up and starting your day with a healthy habit will help you stay on track and motivated the rest of the
day!
Here are a few habits that I have in my Morning Routine!

Morning Walk: I like to get up around 5:30-45 and go on a hour long walk around our neighborhood!
Large Glass of Lemon Water: I pour myself a big glass of water and add lemon juice to it. This helps jump start the metabolism for the day!
Coffee!: I have to have my coffee after my lemon water. I take it strong and black!
Wake Up: Funny this comes at the bottom of the list! I love to sit and wake up slowly after I come in from my walk and drink my water and coffee!

So there you are! These are a few things that I do just about every morning! But, there are several habits that are great to have to maintain a healthy body, that I haven't manages to build yet! I am working on a few, but here are a few Healthy Morning Habits that we can all try to build!

Morning Exercise
Getting up and moving at the start of your day gets you awake, blood flowing, and energy levels up for the rest of the day! I like to take a brisk walk, but some yoga, stretches or simple exercises work just fine!

Lemon Water
Lemon water, as I said before, helps boost your metabolism for the day. Make you have this as the first thing you drink/eat in the day. Its great over ice in the summer and perfect warm in the winter!

Make a List
This is one I find helpful, I just don't do it enough! Making a list in the morning, of everything you need to get done in the day, helps get it off your chest and you don't have to worry about forgetting anything! Also, checking those things off the list throughout the day is a great feeling!

Lotion Up!
Moisturizing your body at the beginning of the day helps it stay hydrated throughout the day. I like to use a lotion with SPF on my face to protect my skin from the sun's rays. Apply lotion all over the body to keep it healthy, bright and beautiful!

Breakfast
We've heard that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and its true! Breakfast should be the biggest meal of your day, and it should be packed full of protein, fiber, vitamins and plenty of fruit and veggies!

Fill a Glass up With Water
Get a large glass, water bottle or cup and fill it with water. Set it on your counter or in your purse/car. Every time you see it, take a sip. You'll be surprised how much water you drink throughout the day by filling up the glass and drinking out of it every time you see it!

Think Happy Thoughts!
Starting the day with happy thoughts will boost your mood and keep you happy the rest of the day! I like to find a motivational quote or inspiration Bible verse to read and think about through the day!

Well, those are just a few of some Healthy Morning Habits that help build a healthy morning routine! If you found this helpful, please let me know and share it with friends and family!
